I had a great experience speaking in Pennsylvania and was surprised by the email response I received afterwards from teens going through some pretty tough problems. While I’m glad I was able to connect with them and offer some words of encouragement (and in a few instances, get them some help), I’m always taken aback by what you find out about people when you scratch beneath the surface. This seemed liked such a happy group of student leaders. Among them, however, were a lot of kids who are suffering. When I get caught up in the vanity of motivational speaking and concern myself too much with my “performance”, this serves as a good reminder of why I do what I do.
Today I’m off to speak in Louisiana about an hour outside of New Orleans. I’m jonesing for a Beignet!
