OK, I just addressed the smallest audience I’ve ever had in 16 years of speaking – five people. The event was adequately promoted, but this organization is having a tough time getting its members to participate. (I was glad they warned me in advance so I wouldn’t take it personally!) An intimate group like this is much more challenging than a larger audience. I’d take 5000 people over five any day. Of course, when the group is that small, the audience members can’t hide; they must pay attention and participate. I tried to make it more of a discussion than a keynote. We got through it and no one complained. I’m looking forward to a much larger group (500 people) tomorrow.
