Choosing Your Reaction With Faced With Adversity

I became a motivational speaker after a year of battling cancer. While my topics have expanded way beyond resilience and overcoming adversity, I still talk a lot in my presentations about the power of choice when faced with challenges.

None of us can control what happens to us. We all control how we react to what happens to us. Ultimately, this reaction – this choice – is what determines how good or bad our lives will be.

Problems are challenging enough. Unfortuantely, many of us make our problems worse by adding stress, anxiety, worry, freaking out and the worst expectations. These self-imposed factors are the source of our suffering. With a little mental dicipline, we can minimize this thinking and shift our focus to more productive thoughts.

You are stronger than you think. And your problems are rarely as bad as you think. Keep your thoughts in check and make sure you’re part of the solution, not part of the problem.  If you focus on where you have control, you’ll boost your power and ease your pain.
