We all know that success takes hard work. The greatest people in history reinforced their talent with thousands of hours of practice. We do need to catch a lucky break. Practice prepares us for when it comes.
To put in that kind of time, it’s important to be doing something you really want to do. Passion is a fuel that energizes us. It gives us strength when there are problems. If we want to do something, it’s easy to do it a lot.
When we have to do something, it has the opposite effect. It drains us and makes us bitter. When we do something out of obligation, it makes it much harder to put in the time. We start to think of other things we’d rather (and should) be doing.
If you want to be great, pursue something you love. When you do, the thousands of hours it takes will fly right by.
